The project’s goal is to switch the GUI Toolkit of the existing applications and frameworks from Java Swing to JavaFX. Canoo’s role is to provide the JavaFX based solution with the same quality as the existing Swing based solution.

Design and Architecture of a ULC-RIA Application.

Tasks

• Design and implementation of a presentation model architecture for

a rich internet application based on Canoo’s ULC technology.

• Implementation of a reference application to establish the core technical and business concepts.

This is developed in Switzerland, and serves as a blueprint to develop the real application, which is being developed in India. The challenge is to keep a strong feedback loop between the architecture team and the development team.

• Coaching the developers on the architecture concepts, the design and implementation patterns.
• Development of a prototype using Oracle Coherence for distributed caching and distributed processing. This functionality is used to reach High Performance Business Logic required for the report generation.

Refactoring of a large software system. A large web application successful for many years has reached a state where it is very difficult to deliver new features for the business in reasonable time, since the source code is in such a bad state that it needs to be cleaned up first.

Tasks

• First we introduced the new layering of the application and then the new architecture and the design

of the individual layers.

• I have been mainly working on the redesign and the refactoring of the service layer.
• teach the existing development team the new concepts and implementation patterns to prevent

repetition of mistakes which have been made in the past.

• Development of portlets to integrate UBS’s Subitop application into

the new portal server environment. Some of these portlets are traditional Struts/JSP based, others required a richer interface using Canoo-ULC.

The software component included a content repository holding the account opening forms and the interfaces (EJBs) to maintain it.

• Developed the first version of a new web application which was able to combine different front-end
